I love photographs with vivid colors and surprising landscapes. My husband and I took a winter camping trip to Goblin Valley and despite the camping being a bust (too cold + sick baby = sleeping in the car and being up half of the night) the scenery of the park was amazing! It was P's first winter camping trip so it was fun to just follow her around and try to capture Goblin Valley from her perspective.

Pockets of Light
One of my favorite things about photography is the different ways that the use of light can impact a photograph. I love the way that this pocket of harsh light adds drama to this photo. This totally wasn't what I had in mind when we set out to take these pictures, we were actually trying to take pictures of the fall leaves, similar to the session from last year in the same location. Although P, now a toddler had different ideas about what she wanted to do, I was still able to capture some of the feeling of this cold November day.

The Pumpkin Patch
Just a little fun at the local pumpkin patch. It was our first time visiting a pumpkin patch and we will definitely be making this a yearly tradition. Even though we lost most of the lighting while we were there, I still managed to capture a few good shots.

Fall Family Pictures
My husband and I have a favorite place in Little Cottonwood Canyon to take pictures of our family each year. I love this location because each year we go there the setting is slightly different. This year we had a little more yellow, last year the leaves were a little more green even though we went during the exact same week. One of the best photography related purchases that we have ever made is our remote. That meant the only tricky part of these photos was getting little P to look at the camera.

Lost
I'm not sure how it happened, but when we moved a couple of months ago we lost a 16x20 framed photo of the temple that used to hang in our living room. I took this picture while standing on the roof of my car to replace the lost photo.

Future Senator?
This is by far my favorite photograph from our trip to Washington, D.C. and believe me I took a LOT of photos. I love this picture because she looks like a tourist, but also because it was totally a candid photo (let's face it, a fifteen month-old baby isn't going to hold still when there are people and places to see.) She was playing on the steps of the US Capitol and I called her name and she turned and that's how I was able to get a photo with her looking at the camera.

Pink + Lime Green
Pink + Lime Green is a color combination that I can live with. We took these photos to document what life is like with P at fourteen months old. She is quite playful and has started to take a huge interest in the color pink and in accessorizing her outfits. It was a lot of fun to spend some time playing around in the backyard in a very informal mini-photo session.

A wedding, a Birthday, and a Graduation
It was a big weekend for my family, my sister A got married, P turned one, and my sister K graduated from high school. We were able to swing by the school for a quick photo shoot after she picked up her cap and gown. I love the lighting in this photo because it was moments before a huge storm blew in, effectively giving us only ten-minutes of shooting time. At the wedding I put my camera away most of the time and instead took care of my sisterly-wedding duties. I did however get a few cute pictures of my niece playing around.

Newborn Pictures with Baby J
Other than the pictures that I took of my daughter P at the hospital and during the first few weeks at home, this was my first chance to take pictures of a newborn baby. Baby J is three days old here and I realized during this session that taking newborn photos is definitely a whole different ball game from taking pictures of babies (even babies that are only two or three months old.) There are definitely things that I learned number one being do whatever you can to keep the baby asleep (make the room a little warmer than usual perhaps, make sure they are well fed and drowsy, etc.) Even though they remain very still, newborn photography is a lot harder than it sounds. I have a roommate from college who majored in Photography and specializes in newborns and she does an amazing job at it which I admire

Snow Improves Lighting
Usually when it is snowy and cold outside, I stay snug and warm indoors. But I couldn't resist the great light reflection that the snow provided for this seven month old session with P.
